Flexible Family Respite Program
Flexible Family Respite is a service providing short term, emergency, one-off and some long term respite in a way that meets family needs. The aim of the program is to reduce the ongoing need for formal respite through promoting a positive adaption to caregiving, fostering the independence of the carer and the person being cared for. The program provides support to families caring for a person with a disability, a person with mental health issues, a person who is aged, or a person who has chronic health care needs.

Hands On Studio
Hands On Studio is an art program, which provides access to professional art classes as well as generic craft classes. The Studio is on the grounds of M16, providing access to the art community in Canberra. The Studio holds a number of exhibitions during the year which enable students to sell their work. It provides an opportunity for people to develop and showcase their work. The Studio also operates an ‘Art Bank’, allowing organisations and businesses to ‘lease’ work for display. Outreach programs are also available upon request.

The Strength Advocacy Independence Life Skills (SAILS) program is a mental health outreach program that provides individual support to consumers both men and women between the ages of 18 - 65 years experiencing the effects of a mental health condition, who live in the ACT. The program is funded through ACT Mental Health Services through ACT Health and Community Care.
SAILS focuses on supporting the individual to achieve their chosen goals, with a focus on resilience and a belief in the rights and responsibilities of an individual. The programs focus is on the development of the consumers needs and a focus on the strength of a person.
The SAILS program has been developed from a strengths model of service provision and aims to promote consumer independence and respect for the individual.

Supporting young people with mental illness

The STEPS Program offers aa step up / step down accommodation option for young people with mental illness.
The 'step up' refers to when a young person experiences moderate to severe symptoms of mental illness and requires support but is assessed as not requiring hospitalisation.
The 'step down' offers an accommodation option for young people with a mental illness to transition between hospital and returning home.
Young people are assisted in their recovery by focusing on their strengths, resilience and skills.
STEPS offers accommodation, support and limited transitional outreach support to ensure the young person's stability is sustained.
Assistance provided includes:
Accommodation to stabilise mental health issues
Parents and/or carers are encouraged to participate in the young person's recovery plan and are able to access support through STEPS or be linked to appropriate services.
Young people may be referred to STEPS by Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, General Practitioners, psychiatrists and psychologists.

The Lodge is located on the grounds of Ainslie Village. The program is funded by ACT Mental Health Services through ACT Health and Community Care, to provide long term and respite residential support to male consumers over the age of 18 years living with a dual diagnosis including a mental health condition and a drug and alcohol issue. The Lodge has a 19 bed capacity, which consists of 15 long term beds and 4 respite beds. The respite program can support consumers who have a mental health condition and or a dual diagnosis for up to 8 weeks which is rent free, and consumers must have accommodation to move to following the end of respite. The long term beds are specifically for dual diagnosis consumers and rent is charged at 85% of their income. The Lodge is staffed from 8am -8pm.

The Youth and Wellbeing Program is funded through ACT Health, Housing and Community Care. The purpose is to support young people in the community between 12 to 25 years of age who have a mental health condition and/or drug and alcohol, anger and behavioural concerns and related issues. The staff at Youth and Wellbeing aim to encourage resilience and independence through a process of support, education and advocacy. Referrals can be made over the phone on the numbers listed below.
